How Does the Planetary Age Calculator Work?
Our planetary age calculator uses precise astronomical data from NASA and the International Astronomical Union (IAU) to calculate your age on every planet in the solar system. But what exactly does "age on another planet" mean?
Age is simply counting orbits. On Earth, when you say you're 10 years old, you're saying Earth has completed 10 full orbits around the Sun since you were born. Each planet takes a different amount of time to complete one orbit, which means your "age" changes depending on which planet you're standing on.
The Math Behind Planetary Age
Your age on any planet = (Days since your birth) Γ· (Planet's orbital period in days)
For example, if you've been alive 3,650 days (10 Earth years), and Mercury orbits the Sun in 88 days, your Mercury age would be 3,650 Γ· 88 = 41.5 Mercury years!
Why Is My Age Different on Different Planets?
Each planet in our solar system orbits the Sun at a different distance and speed. This creates vastly different year lengths across the solar system.
Inner Planets (Shorter Years)
- Mercury: Only 88 Earth days per year! You'll be much older in Mercury years because it completes orbits so quickly.
- Venus: 225 Earth days per year. Still faster than Earth, making you older in Venusian years.
- Mars: 687 Earth days per year (1.88 Earth years). You'll be younger in Mars years than Earth years.
Outer Planets (Longer Years)
- Jupiter: 12 Earth years per orbit. A 12-year-old on Earth is only 1 year old on Jupiter!
- Saturn: 29 Earth years per orbit. Most people won't even reach 3 Saturn years in their lifetime.
- Uranus: 84 Earth years per orbit. If you're lucky, you might see one Uranian birthday!
- Neptune: 165 Earth years per orbit. No human has ever lived through a complete Neptune year.

On Mercury, you'd celebrate birthdays every 88 days. On Neptune, you'd wait 165 Earth years between birthdays!
